Sometimes, when we are planning room makeovers, it is easy to know exactly what we want. Other times, we need a little advice and we consult interior design specialists to get some tips on how best to utilize space and color while implementing new design ideas. Coming up with bathroom ideas can be more daunting than we realize, but sometimes the best design solution is to create a great color scheme.
A great starting point for choosing your bathroom color scheme is to look at one item you most want in your bathroom, whether it's a rug or flooring sample, a picture on the wall or a vase or basket, and use the predominant color in it to choose the pattern of your color scheme.
After choosing your predominant color, you should choose two other colors that look great with your first color. You can also use two differnt tones of the same color for your color palette if you prefer. Interior design experts advise that you choose one light color, one medium color and a dark color. Sometimes you can find all three in a flooring sample and work from there. If one of your selected colors seems too bright, you can tone it down by adding a small amount of gray or white. You want your bathroom to appear "grounded," so the color of your floor should be darker than your ceiling or walls. If you choose blinds or curtains for your bathroom they shold be similar shades of the medium color or light color of your color scheme.
You might instead choose to select a contrasting color scheme, such as black and white in your bathroom. In this type of design idea for a bathroom, you should still choose a third color to use for accents. This prevents the beauty of simple contrasting colors from appearing too stark.
Another thing to take into consideration when choosing a color scheme for your bathroom is the atmosphere you most want to create in your bathroom. Interior design experts agree that the colors you choose creat a certain "feel" in the room and this is even more evident in the bathroom. Selecting shades of blues and greens promote a feeling of calm and tranquility, while reds and oranges are more energizing and create a feeling of vitality. White has a clean, spacious feel to it and fosters a sense or order.
Whichever color scheme you decide to select for your bathroom, be sure to choose something that feels right to you. It's nice to be able to impress your guests, but remember that this is your space and you are the one who will be spending the most time in it.
